Volunteers
The Humane Society has plenty of opportunities for you to help. Who do we need? Adults who can devote an hour or two per week to help the stray and unwanted animals in our community. (We cannot accept youth volunteers at this time.)
Ways you can help:
Volunteer at PetSmart
We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers on weekends to take shifts at the
PetSmart at Brannon Crossing in Nicholasville, KY. The DBCHS brings animals
there each week with the hopes that many will get adopted. Help find great
forever homes for our furry friends. It's satisfying, fun and a wonderful way
to spend an afternoon with adorable cats, kittens, puppies and dogs. Sign up
with a friend. You'll be glad you did. For more information, call (859) 238-1117.
Be a foster family
If you own your own home, have a yard,
and are willing to spend time with puppies, kittens, dogs or cats who need
a temporary place to stay, please become a foster home! Fostering gets
you up close and personal with the animals. It's lots of fun and gives
you the satisfaction of knowing you are saving the lives of some very lovable
pets!
Transport
animals
Our humane society works with several rescue groups in different
areas, and we often need drivers to take dogs or cats part of the way to
the rescue. The drives are usually no more than 2 hours away. Get on board
and help with these life-saving rides!
Help at the shelter on Saturdays
You'll get a taste of every aspect of humane society operations, helping
the Saturday crew wait on visitors, answer the phone, keep the animals
clean, and so much more.
Data entry
Sounds boring, but it's so important!
We need help keeping up with all our records and updating our mailing list.
These tasks help us to raise money and save more lives. And remember, you
can always take breaks to visit the animals!
If you're ready to help some homeless animals, please call (859) 238-1117.
Every donated hour makes a difference.
