Local Ordinances
The Danville-Boyle County Humane Society Animal Shelter, through our Animal Control Officers, is entrusted by the Boyle County Fiscal Court with the enforcement of ordinances pertaining to animal care and control. We work closely with local police agencies when the need arises.

The basic principle our Animal Control Officers enforce is contained in Boyle County Fiscal Court Ordinances, Series of 840.0, Section 5: Dogs Running at Large, which states:
(a) No owner, custodian, possessor or harborer shall permit any dog to run at large other than on his own premises at any time, unless accompanied by the owner, custodian, possessor or harborer and under his immediate control.
(b) Whoever, being the owner, custodian, possessor or harborer of any dog violates this section shall be fined not less than ten dollars ($10.00) nor more than twenty-five dollars ($25.00) for each offense.

Anyone wanting to study local ordinances concerning the control and care of dogs and cats may consult the following:
  • Boyle County Fiscal Court Ordinances, Series of 840.0. These ordinances also govern residents of Junction City
  • City of Danville, Ordinance No. 1395
  • City of Perryville, Ordinance No. 98.001
Simply Put...
If a dog is away from the dog owner's property unaccompanied by the owner, there is a violation of the ordinances.
Dog owners must be with their dogs at all times when the dogs are away from home.
