About the DBCHS
We provide a haven for homeless and unwanted animals and strive to educate both children and adults in the importance of responsible pet ownership. Through humane education, adoptions of homeless animals and, most importantly, encouraging spaying and neutering of pets, we work toward the day when permanent, loving homes are available for all dogs and cats.

Are You My Mommy?
This is Tara and she is looking for her Special Foster Home. Tara came to us after being attacked by a dog. She had infected wounds and an upper respitory infection. She fought it all off only to test positive for Feline Leukemia! But we have been told that this may be a "false-positive" reading from the mothers anitbodies. So now we are looking for a special foster home for the next two months till she can be tested again. It must be cat free; in case she should be contagious. It must have a loving foster family that will tend to her healing woulds and treat her with care and tenderness. It must be blessed with the special ability to give Tara this chance even at the cost of losing her to illness. Are you Tara's Mommy? We will interview for foster homes at the shelter mon.-Fri. 8:30-4:30. A home inspection may be required for fostering.

What's New?
  • Foster Families are Needed! We are constantly needing foster homes to temporarily house our animals. Usually this is needed for a week or two till they can be placed in the arranged rescue. This is especially helpful with our Petsmart Rescue Waggin animals. Please contact Cheri Hibbs at 859-238-1117 if you are interested in housing some puppies or a dog.
  • Check out the new donation box at Kroger We have recently updated our Donation Box at Kroger in keeping with the recent remodel of their store. Please take time to take a look at the list of needed items on the sides of the box. Especially needed is Purina Puppy Chow to keep our new little "residents" healthy!
  • Happy Paws Spay/Neuter Clinic offers low-cost spaying or neutering to low-income pet owners who qualify. For more information, or to make an appointment, call 859-691-1137. If you would like to make a donation to help with the clinic, send it to P.O. Box 487, Danville, KY 40423. Our goal is to perform 1,000 surgeries during our first year, and reduce the companion animal population so that eventually, there will be no unwanted cats or dogs in our area.
  • Obedience class! Our next free obedience session is scheduled for Saturday, July 12th at 12:30 p.m. at Stuart Powell Ford on the Danville bypass near Big Lots. See you there!
  • An alternative to surrendering your pet If you can no longer keep him or her is to send a digital photo to us via email. We will post the photo and information on Petfinder.com, giving prospective pet adopters the chance to see them. This is a great way to reach a large group of people who are looking for pets, and will keep your cat or dog from having to go through the trauma of staying at an animal shelter. Our email address is dbchs@bellsouth.net.
  • Paws Memorial Park, our community pet cemetery, provides a pretty spot to bury a beloved pet. For more information, call us at 238-1117. Or click here for more information.
  • New Cat Play Rooms by Lowes! Our local Lowes Home Center has generously donated and built two cat play rooms into our main cat room at the shelter. Please take time to ome by and see- you can actualy go in, sit and play with our adult cats! They'd love to have you so come on by!
